I was born three months premature weighing in at three pounds, four ounces. My mother always called me, her miracle baby. Back then doctors did not understand the importance of touch so the first month of my life I was not touched except to change my diaper.
My mother was visiting me through the glass when I was about a month old and still under five pounds. The doctor came up and stood next to her and said, “You know, Mrs. Bartholomeaux, she’s probably not going to make it. You really should consider giving her up before you get too attached.”
My mother pulled herself up to her full 4’11” and said, “If she dies, she’s going to die knowing she was loved!” So my little Italian mother took me home against medical advice and here I am!

My grandmother’s gift to me in heaven in my near-death experience was to “go back and be happy”. Isn’t that a message we would all love to receive as the way we should live our lives? : )

I forgot to buy flowers for the centerpiece! And, the guests will be here in twenty minutes. I run to my car and make a mad dash to the floral department. I find just what I need – long stemmed lilies in the loveliest shade of champagne-satin. The hostess-goddesses are smiling down on me, to be sure.
I scoop the bouquet into my arms and rush to the check-out line, where I find three people ahead of me—all of them with overflowing carts. I tell my story and they each let me pass. A man smiles, nods, and says, “Of course. After all, one must have food for the soul as well as food for the stomach.”
