A day after my Mom passed I met with a friend, Paul, whom I had not seen for over 15 years.
Paul said something in almost the same words that my Mom had said to me some 30 years earlier when I was 19.
“Do what you really, really want to do and don’t make the choice about it for any other reason!”
Paul stood there and said how for 27 years he worked at a job he didn’t like and did other things because he thought he “was supposed to do them” or because “it was the thing to do” and was never really happy. And how, at age 55, he had the realization, after his boss dropped dead in front of him, that life was supposed to be lived doing what you really, really wanted to do!
I heard you 30 years ago Mom, but I did not listen. I heard you when you spoke through Paul and I am listening and following your words now! I only wish I could stand in front of you in this world and say “Thank you, I love you for your guidance!”

After spending 2 years and my life savings trying to start my own business, it failed to become viable. To make ends meet, I started consulting, and now I am happily building a successful consulting business. Lesson: Don’t give up, keep working at it, even if your first try fails!
