I was a fact-checker at a magazine working on two separate articles. For the first, I had left a message for an expert on “leeches.” For the second, I had left a message for a lawyer who specialized in personal injury issues. Both men’s names were quite similar.
I received a call back and picked up the phone with “Thanks so much for calling me back. I understand you’re quite a leech expert.” There was a long pause, and then the man at the other end responded with, “I suppose you could say that. I AM a lawyer…”

I was calling my son’s language arts teacher, when my kids started bickering and distracted me. In a moment of confusion I heard the beep of v-mail, thought I had dialed my husband and then proceeded to leave a message telling the school teacher that I loved her.
My kids started laughing so hard, because they realized right away what happened. Fortunately, the teacher who has a kid my son’s age understood right away what happened and thought it was very funny.
